So Finn has known how to go up the stairs forever now..he has finally figured out how to go down them too, which is always a relief. He went down them the "safe" way (backwards) for about a week, but has recently decided that he is way too cool for that anymore, and so has started to scoot down on his bottom, as the video shows. Sigh. Soon enough he will be running up and down them with his brother, but I would feel a whole lot better if he still went down backwards. Kids.
Finn is also on another hunger strike this week. I think he is fighting off a bit of a cold, he hasn't been sleeping well (yippie for me) and has had a runny nose, and refuses to sit in his high chair and eat. He gets a great kick out of shoving his half chewed crackers into my mouth though, and sometimes I let him do it, because it stops the crying for a little while anyway. I know those of you with out kids are probaly retching right now...but let me tell you...things really do change when you have kids. Its only sorta gross instead of completly disgusting. :-)
I guess I need to once again (minute by minute it seems) turn my children into the hands of God. I'm hopeing God wants them to grow big and strong. Thats the whole "problem" with the whole "Thy Will Be Done" prayer... sumbitting to God's will even if it isn't what I think is best.
Here is a new recipe we tried for dinner tonight, and it was so good, I'm putting it all the way up here so it will get seen, instead of way at the bottom with the rest of my recipes, since I think no one even looks down there.
Wieners and ‘Kraut
Prep:20 total: 40
6 whole peppercorns
3 whole cloves
4 caraway seeds
Parsley
Bay leaf
6 slices of bacon, diced
1 medium onion chopped
1-2 Tbsp packed brown sugar
16 oz drained sauerkraut
4 medium potatoes, peeled and chopped
4 medium apples sliced
8 smoked hotdogs, sliced diagonally
3 c chicken broth
Place peppercorns, cloves, caraway, parsley, and bay leaf in tea ball and set aside.
Brown bacon and onions in large skillet or Dutch oven.
Drain grease. Stir in sugar, sauerkraut, potatoes, apples, hotdogs. And tea ball of seasonings. Pour broth in. Bring to a boil, cover and simmer 20-30 minutes until potatoes are tender. Remove tea ball. Serve using slotted spoon.
We used authentic German sauerkraut and wieners (Boars head was the brand) that we found at the commissary at it almost tasted like the real deal that we had in Germany, I cannot vouch for taste if you use Oscar Mayer hotdogs…
