Easter

Let me start out by saying, my parents were here for a visit a few weeks ago...and I will post photos from that next, I promise! But I just wanted to show off how handsome my boys can be when we actually get them all dressed up. :-)

Holy Saturday we dyed eggs and just had a nice quiet day together. We went to the Easter Vigil on Saturday night. For those of you who don't know, the Easter Vigil is the best mass of the whole year!! (its also the longest, and usually starts after the boys bedtime.) St Pats, where we attend, offered the nursery for the Vigil Mass, and we decided to take advantage of it. We have not been able to attend the Vigil Mass since having kids. It was so nice to go and seep ourselves in the ancient traditions of the Church. I literally cried when the church went from darkness to light and we sang the Gloria. And then again when we burst out in Alleluia. It is so exciting to sing songs of praise after a very long somber Lent. I can post a very good article on the Vigil traditions if people are interested.

So we got home from mass around 11:30 pm. Thankfully the boys fell asleep at church and basically stayed asleep when we got home. Dom and I had a snack and put the baskets together and fell asleep.

Of course, anyone with kids knows that the later they go to bed at night, the earlier they get up the next morning....groan..... So we were up bright and early. I tried to enforce them playing quietly in their bedroom for a little bit, but eventually they got hungry, so we let them out to find their candy. Since Easter is a feast day, I let them eat candy for breakfast. And since we gave up TV for lent (which we did pretty well with) I let them watch the new movies they got in their baskets. Dom and I rested some more, and then it was time to get ready to go to our friends house for Easter Brunch.

The O'Dowds (our former neighbors and soon to be new neighbors) had invited us over for brunch. I mixed a huge pot of mac and cheese for all the kids to eat and grabbed the 80 some plastic eggs I filled and we headed over. One of the best things about the military is the wonderful "family" you find away from your actual family. It was so wonderful to spend the day with a bunch of friends. Kids running around like crazy, babies getting passed from person to person....God continues to bless us with wonderful friends where ever we go! The big excitement of the day was out little egg hunt. The mom's took the kids and sequestered them in a small room and went through all the kid songs while the dad's hid the eggs.
Finding the eggs didn't take too long, but I think the kids had fun doing it. And then they had fun eating the candy. And then one of the neighbors blew up a big bouncy castle so the kids could burn off a bit of the sugar rush. It was a great afternoon. Finn fell asleep in my arms after all the candy and bouncing. The poor kid was tuckered out. Liam had fun playing with all our friends from the old neighborhood again. It was nice and sunny outside, and everyone was dressed up so nicely. It was a wonderful day, and a great celebration of Easter.
