Anyway, at first no one was interested in helping me with the rolling and cutting, which was actually a good thing since it gave me the change to figure out how thin, how much pressure on the rolling pin, etc. By the time I got the first batch in the oven Liam was all about helping, and what a good helper he was! He loved using the cookie cutters, and even had a hand at rolling out the dough! Everyone was on board for the frosting process. The boys loved to help make the frosting, and choosing the colors and how dark to make them. I accidentally picked out the neon food coloring, so the cookies are nice and bright! The frosting was the best part, there was lots of finger licking, and "broken" cookies that just had to be eaten right then. :-) The we licked the bowls of frosting when done. We managed to save a few cookies for Santa, but we gobbled them up quickly. Yes, it was a lot of work, just like I thought it would be, but it was fun to do it together as a family and watch the boys get so excited!

i have tried sugar cookies, but never got them to work right, but we tried gingerbread this year and they were amazing!
This is something that was always a fond memory from my Christmases as a child. I have continued the tradition with my kids and we love sugar cookie baking day at Christmas.
