We woke up at our normal time and took Dom into work, but then we came home and started our new school morning routine of not turning the TV on, but getting dressed and eating a good breakfast. I think we were all a little excited, because we were ready super early, and Finn was VERY emotional all morning. I think he guessed his playmate was going for the day. The time came to hop into the car. We live just over a mile from school so I opted to drive in. Normally you just drive up and the kid hops out and is met by a teacher who directs the student to the right class line. Since it was Liam's first day I offered to park the car and walk up with him. I asked him over and over if he wanted me to walk him in, but he kept saying "No Mom, I want to hop out!" My little boy is all grown up and excited and confident now!!!
So we get to the school and get up to the drop off place, and my brave little man hops right out, blows me a kiss and says "bye mom, love you!" I was trying so hard (unsuccessfully) not to cry as I told him I loved him and wanted him to have a good day. By then he was all ready off and telling the teacher who his teacher is. Not even a backward glance!!!!!
Well, I lost it as I drove away with Finn and Seamus. I cried the whole way home, and called a good friend trying to distract myself, but was still a little choked up. I was happy for him, it just came upon me so fast is all! Let me tell you, I was wiped out emotionally by 9 am! Thankfully I have some amazing friends who allowed me to wallow in their company (thanks Barbie and Jennifer) until it was time to pick him up from school.
Liam had a good first day (and good second, as I write this) He likes his teacher, and is learning all the rules (he was very concerned about that all summer, he wanted to know the rules so he wouldn't get in trouble) The only problem is that he still has a "nap time" sigh! And he needs to learn how to eat more quickly as they have less than half an hour to eat (and I really have to fill him up before and after school) After the first day we all went out to Dairy Queen to celebrate this family milestone, it was a nice ending to a very special day.

Can't believe he is that big already. I'm so glad he had a good first day. I know he will do great--and so will you Mom:)
