Re-purposing

We have a lot of toys (at least it feels that way every time I pick them up) and throughout the course of a month they play with all of them at one time or another. But there are a few toys that get the bulk of our playtime. Those tend to be cars or trains, balls, swords, and anything from my kitchen. Granted, the vast majority of our toys fall into those categories with a few notable exceptions of blocks, water table, veggie tales, play food, things that make noise and baby toys (yes, those still get played with, more than when they were babies). I would have to say that with out a doubt, the one toy that gets the most play in our house is the slide we purchased for Liam when he was a year and a half. I really think that the boys have played with this toy at least once a day every day that we have had it! And, they hardly ever actually slide down it. This is also our biggest re purposed toy. My children hardly ever play with toys how they were intended, they excel at finding new things to do with old toys, which is why I now have a hard time buying new toys, even though there are so many cool things out there.

The slide has been used as a slide from time to time, it has been a ramp for both cars and balls, it has been a water slide into the baby pool. They turn it on its side and it becomes the bow of a boat, or a fort to watch enemy movements from (yes, daddy is a solider) The prop it up on the couch when my attention is diverted and make a bridge until I make them take it down. Now they have been turning it upside down and making roads or something. These are just a few of the things they do with this slide. It really is the best toy that we have, everyone should have them, and just let the kids do what they want with it. I am constantly amazed by my children's creativity, I just stand back, admire, encourage and play along! There is nothing better in life than being able to find creative solutions for all that life gives you, I hope I am fostering that in my children, I think I am.

I have the baby fever too, but then I think to 3 kids in diapers and raising twin toddlers while trying to juggle a newborn not to mention moving while I am pregnant... really, that was enough to remind me that number 5 will come eventually but not right now lol.
