For several weeks Dom and I have been talking about when to ween Finn from his spider man sippy cup. The cups are getting old, and so leaking a lot more, and I don't really want to buy new ones since I know we will be getting rid of them soon. Now that Seamus is here, and life is getting back to normal, I decided Monday was the day to rid our house of cups. I threw all three of them away that morning. I let Finn have his cup at mass for the last time. (in hopes that he would sit rather still) He didn't sit still, he climbed on the kneeler and gave himself a fat lip...
After mass we went to Target to get a few things, and while we were there I let him pick out whatever toy he wanted, and explained he could have the toy if he was ready to give up his cup. He readily agreed (a little underhanded on my part I know) and picked out "The Wonder Pets" flyboat. Finn LOVES the Wonder Pets, and so we tolerate them at our home. We got to the surfmobile and promptly opened the toy to play with on the ride home. About halfway home he got sleepy and wanted his cup. I explained that we got the new toy instead of having cups anymore. The sweet baby asked if we could return the toy now so he could have his cup. :-(
We made it home and continued to have frequent screaming and crying fits as he struggled with wanting his cup and us not giving it to him. Let me tell you, my heart was breaking for him all day long. Oh, and the toy...he does not want to play with it, but no one else can either. Poor little guy didn't get his nap for wanting his cup to help him fall asleep, poor little guy was hungry because he needs to learn to eat instead of sucking his cup all day, poor little guy was upset because he did not have his cup to turn to when he was upset...he is quite attached to that cup!
By bedtime, he fell right asleep and slept through the night! he was worn out! Today has been day two of no cup, and its just a little bit better. He has been better about taking a snack or a "glass of milk" when hungry instead of the sippy cup. He fell asleep watching a movie cause he's been so worn out. And thus far, fell asleep easily tonight. It is so hard taking away the things that they get attached to, and if it was anything but a milky sippy cup I would have let him hang on to it a little while longer, but we got so tired of having milk leak everywhere, needing to fill it contently and have refills on hand, and the worst was him sneaking it at night. So anyway, hopefully tomorrow will be even better as we adjust.

Any news on where you guys are headed too?
