Summer School

We officially finished our school year in the end of May, and will probably start again in the beginning of August.  But that doesn't mean we are all done learning!  Below are links to what we are using for our summer sessions.  We keep it light and easy and fun, and not too hard, but we try to learn a little bit everyday.  Our basics are handwriting, math and reading, because those are things all of us use every day, even as grown-ups.
For handwriting we are taking a break from normal copy work, and instead are using "Retrain the Brain" to help our little brains process smoother handwriting skills.  It is fun because it comes with lots of cross-brain training activities and we practice to fun music.
In Math we practice and drill our addition and subtraction facts, thankfully we have a fun online drill page to keep it from getting boring. We also do a few word problems a day, just to reinforce why we need to learn these things.
Reading is practice practice practice.  Getting smoother in our reading, finding all sorts of fun things to read.  I am also reading The Hobbit to the boys, as a tie in to the new Lord of The Rings Lego's that the boys are very interested in.
Since it is finally nice and sunny outside we are able to get out into nature and do some exploring and discovery.  The new puppy is also providing a lot of great science and responsibility training.
Liam has been working very hard on his cub scouts Light of Christ award and other pins and belt loops. For his birthday, we gave Liam The Dangerous Book for Boys which provides all sorts of wonderful topics specifically geared toward the intrests of little boys.  It has been a lot of fun to learn all sorts of great new things.
As if that wasn't enough to keep us busy, we also are back into swimming at the YMCA and we will also be starting baseball.  We walk the dog at least an hour every day, and we are working on obedience training as well.  Plus, there is still lots of time for play, Lego's and riding bikes are the top two favorite activities.
Summer is flying by, but we are happily keeping busy.
