I know I should exercise. I know its good for me now, and later in life too, and that is sets a great example for the children. My problem was time. I don't have any time. Going to the gym is just too hard with the 4 kids, it's also expensive. Working out at home is okay, but DVD's get boring after awhile, and I'm just lost if I need to find something myself. I have no idea what to do.
Enter the husband. I explained my problems to him, he did a lot of research for me, and came up with a wonderful solution. First off, he spent an outrageous amount of money on some very pretty work out clothes, so I would put them on and be motivated to start. I LOVE them, I am happy in them, I like to put them on. So that was a great idea on his part.
Second, he found a work out that doesn't require a lot of stuff, or time! He purchased Body Sculpting with Kettle-bells for Women by Lorna Kleidman for me to use. You can get quite a work out with a single kettle bell (all though I may be ready to upgrade to the next weight...) And it doesn't take much time either. I just finished my first 6 week cycle of works-outs. There are four 6-week cycles total, using over 50 different exercises targeting all your different muscle groups. There are 4 work-outs in a week
Here is what I like. The work outs are pretty quick, I can usually knock it out in less than 30 minutes, mostly 20. I can sneak away or keep everyone pretty happy for 20 minutes. The workouts are pretty tough. I "feel" the work-out while I am doing it, and the next day too. But they are not so tough that I can't tend to my children because my body is in pain. This is an important point. Right now, my priority is taking care of my children. They are young, so that includes carrying them around all day (and night). I'm not going to keep doing something that makes it more difficult to take care of them the next day. The book describes the exercises pretty well, and also has pictures if I don't understand exactly by reading.
So, 6 weeks in, I am pretty happy. I was able to do my first sit-up since having children, I am getting better at push-ups. I feel stronger and even the tiniest bit more toned. Maybe someday when the kids are older I'll be able to go to a gym and do harder work-outs. But for where I am right now in my life, this fits me perfectly.
Here is a link to the book I've been using.
Not bad for having 4 kids I'd say. :)
