Music for the letter B

Back with more music for little ears.  This time with titles that have the letter B in them.

Flight of the Bumblebee by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov A fun quick short piece guaranteed to grab a little one's attention.  Imagine a small bee frantically flying around.  Listen to how the composer almost makes the instruments sound like the buzzing of a bee. If the kids watch the video, can you see how quickly the fingers are all moving?

Of course we can't forget the "Blue Danube Waltz" by Johann Strauss
It is a great song for spinning in circles.  Waltzes are also excellent for pointing out 3/4 time with the strong um-Pah-Pah" beat in the whole song.  It's on my list, because I have very fond memories of actually dancing the Viennese waltz to this song played by a full orchestra.  It is a long song to dance all the way through, but it was fun.

While we are on the subject of waltzes, we can also bring up "Sleeping Beauty's Waltz" by Pytor Ilyich Tchikovsky.  The entire suite of Sleeping Beauty is one of my favorites, and I encourage you to listen to more than just the waltz.  Tchikovsky really loves thick rich heavy string chords. Which is illustrated better in other pieces, but this is a fun and easy to recognize song.

And Beethoven's Fifth Symphony.  At least listen to the first movement.  The whole symphony is great, but can get long for little ones.  For awhile I had the CD in my car, but it was pretty scratched so kept jumping between the movements.  The fun part is my little listeners started getting good at identifying the different movements.  Made my little mother/ music nerd heart proud.
