Camping

We took an overnight adventure out to the Olympic Peninsula just before the 4th of July. We left early in the morning and took a 3 hour drive to get to the National Forest.  The Olympics are very pretty and cool looking rain forest right in the mountains.  We set up our camp and then took a small hike into the woods.  It is so beautiful, I hope the pictures captured some of that. We saw lots of neat bugs too, including HUGE slugs! (yuck!) After our hike we had dinner and eventually marshmallows over the campfire, and just had fun hanging around.  The boys jumped on the air mattress in the tent, and had fun shoo-ing a very FAT chipmunk away repeatedly. When it started getting dark we let the boys play with their headlamps, and they had a ton of fun.  Eventually we all climbed into the tent and snuggled down to sleep. It was a long cold night... firstly, some people at nearby campsites were pretty loud, one guy's laugh sounded like a goat and it kept intruding into my dreams.  Secondly, its cold in the mountains at night, even when huddled all together. Thirdly Seamus ate too much dirt and woke up twice to puke all over me. Finn slept pretty well in the middle, Seamus slept when he wasn't throwing up, Liam, Dom and I sort of slept. At 4 Dom and Liam were too cold so they got up and did some adventuring in the dark with headlamps while Finn Seamus and I tried to sleep some more.  At 5am, we were freezing cold, so we took camp down and hopped in the car to warm up and find someplace to eat breakfast.  We left just in time to watch the sun creep over Hurricane Ridge, so we stopped and watched, it was breathtaking!!!
Then we found delicious, wonderful warm breakfast at the local greasy spoon before driving to our next day hike.  Our second hike was to a pretty waterfall called Marymere.  The forest reminded the boys of Endor of course, and the falls were beautiful.  After this we were tired and ready to make our long drive home.  We were home early enough to get the car all cleaned out and every one a nice warm bath before bed.  It was good to be home.  We are so blessed to have so much beauty so close by, and so blessed to have a nice warm place to come home to.
